Reseller, a couple more questions for you: 1) We all have seen Zip prices for example that are below even the additional 10 points or so that the larger folks can buy at. What do you think - is this the result of special promotions, or selling at or below cost, or ? 2) What is your estimate of the margins the folks at Ingram Micro and Tech Data are getting? RE: Channel Check - Arlington, TX CompUSA I went to CompUSA at lunchtime today, and made the following Iomega-related observations: 1) Virtually all Iomega products were at full list price, with the exception of the Color 10-packs for $129. 2) Iomega commanded about 2/3 of the removable storage/CDR/tape backup shelving. The other third was divided pretty equally between about half a dozen competitors. I had to search very hard before I found two EZ230 drives. No other SyQuest anywhere to be seen. 3) The clerk had no idea when Buz was coming (or even what Buz was). It wasn't on his computer yet, so "quite a while". 4) Tons of non-Iomega products piggybacking on Zip. Everything from holders to software to battery packs. 5) Zip Plus, Jaz, and Ditto Max were most prominent. Also, quite a few external SCSI Zips. 6) I saw the DittoMax Professionals (up to 10GB) there for the first time. (Previously, they only had DittoMax Standard--up to 7GB). The jump in capacity comes at a price of an additional $100. Nice! Squeeze what you can out of the "gotta get the top of the line" group. Similar concept to Intel. 300mHz costs considerably more than 266mHz or 233mHz. - Michael Coley - i1.net
