None of his percentage numbers on taxes paid have any meaning until you know the amount of money earned by those paying the taxes. You already have a clue when you see he says the top 10% of income earners is only 1% of our population. What percentage of total earnings do the top 10% of wage earners earn? Care to guess? Fill in the blank for a much clearer picture: About 1.7 million Americans, less than 1 percent of our population, earn ____ percent of all income, and pay 70.6 percent of federal income taxes.
