To: Rarebird who wrote (1277 ) 10/19/2017 4:45:05 PM From: Zeddie88 Respond to of 2202 The younger one (14) was struggling with amplified pain syndrome all of last year. She had such a terrific attitude (so similar to yours when you had the cancer diagnosis) though! It started on her birthday Sept 18 '16 and quickly escalated such that she was in so much pain in the mornings that she could hardly move her legs. Needless to say, pain spreading across all joints of the body was scary and there were so many days off from school that she was in danger of losing the year. The Pain Clinic of the Children's Hospital was like a second home. No, she didn't want meds and even during the worst days, meds didn't work anyhow. Formerly such a smiling, optimistic child, she became whiny child, face gripped in seriousness as I told her to concentrate on the positive, visualize and feel the joints getting better as I went through our nightly routine of light massage and encouragement. I slept many a night on a yoga mat on the floor right by her bed lol! I felt helpless and so approached the problem with the same intensity that probably shows in my trading lol! Intuitively, I felt that there could/should be more than just the physio and psychological counselling at the Pain Clinic but meds were not the answer. Hours spent with Dr. Google led to me to some research papers published by Dr. Sherry, pediatric rheumatologist at Children's Hosp of Philadelphia. Ok, it instantly struck me that Dr. Sherry looked like he'd comfortably fit into our neighborhood, walking down the street even, so intuition nudged me into reading all his papers. I soon had a binder full and highlighted with colors. Thanks to the details in the papers, I was soon able to work out a series of exercises and away we went. The theory is that the nerves have to be retrained, so the only answer was exercise till my child looked at me with crying eyes, hateful face and said, "Let's continue" while a bit of you cringed inside. Months later she said the pain was less intense and in June we embarked on a renovation project to redo our front deck just so that she would be forced to move even more while under the guise of working lol! On the morning of her birthday Sept 18, a full year later, she approached me and said, "Throw these out, I'm cured, Mama," as she handed me the useless anti-inflammatory pills that she'd been prescribed. She later told me that during her scariest moments of pain, she'd lie in bed, hear my breathing on the floor and tell herself that she could overcome it, that her life would not be like this. So, everything is in the attitude:) And she's practically forgotten about the pain now:) Her story was such a success, astounding even to the members of the Pain Clinic, that they asked me to write a good news report to be featured in the hospital magazine. Oh dear, I'll have to leave out some pertinent details lol! PYPL great earnings, might juice QD some more tomorrow. Anyhow, I trade, (s)mother my kids, cook and as you would say, love and live (I really liked the simplicity, sentiment and beauty of that post on the weekend - thank you for it) Sue
