Hitachi Ltd and INTEL CORP are to jointly develop technology for
a personal computer system that can be used to view ground-based
digital TV broadcasts, Japanese economic daily Nihon Keizai
Shimbun said. Hitachi spokesmen were not immediately available to
comment on the report. The new system will be based on Hitachi's
decoding technology, the paper reported. Hitachi's decoding system
accepts all currently used protocols for ground-based digital
broadcasts. The two companies hope the project will lead to an
industry standard for digital broadcasting, the paper said.
