IMO the theory of people wanting to get in on the Thai party and therefore being willing to pay premiums over NAV would gain credence if this was a rather recent phenomenon (say since June 97).

But is it? If I remeber correctly (I may be wrong!) checking TCs SEC filings, they historically always spotted premiums. So I'm not sure whether the above theory holds true. But I cannot offer anything convincing either, I guess :)
