HDSL1(2) targets the corporate market. It's basically a cheap T1, which more and more mid to small companies are using, telcos love it to death.

Lots of the telcos don't love it to death; they're making piles of money on T1's, and are scared to death those fat profits will evaporate.

xDSL is important, long term, but remember that it's only a technology from the endpoint to the CO (the local loop). Consider a company with a T1 to the Internet. Here in the Bay Area, the monthly costs could break down something like this:

T1 local loop: 175

Mileage to ISP: 300

ISP's charge for T1 Internet access: 1700

The only component affected by xDSL is the first one.

xDSL's real promise for the telcos is to take over Internet service. These two ships (Internet service and telephony) are colliding. ISP's will either partner with telcos, get bought by telcos, become telcos, or disappear. The saving grace for independent ISPs is that telcos are slow, stodgy, and lumbering; there's a real opportunity for ISPs to give the telcos dancing lessons.

PAIR's equipment fits in great with existing system.

pass pass,

I agree. I do believe decent deployment will not occur until 1999 and I intend to own some PAIR in a few quarters. It is a very good buy now but I do not enough capital to buy PAIR and hold all my other positions.
