***OT*** Andy, >>>I don't know much about IEEE 1394, maybe you can help me. I think IEEE1394 T.A. has mentioned something like 1394 ATAPI and SCSI HDD and CD-ROM. Is it mean IEEE1394 can support ATAPI and SCSI devices??? <<<

IEEE1394 can't directly operate ATAPI or SCSI, but it can be "bridged" to those buses with silicon chips. So it could be possible (I don't know if the designs have actually been implemented) to operate an ATAPI or SCSI device with a "bridge" circuit at the end of a firewire connection.

It'll take a little while for companies to get use to using the bus. But once it gets rolling, interfacing to new hardware will get a lot simpler. It's hot-pluggable and automatically reconfigures itself when peripherals are plugged-in/out or powered on/off.
