Norm, what I said is true. IBM didn't plan on being MSFT's partner for much longer--for whatever reason (you say it's because MSFT wasn't doing a good/timely job--whatever, that's not the point). So in the end, MSFT decided that they had to screw IBM before IBM screwed them. And regardless, MSFT was scared and at that time would have rather stayed IBM's partner. That's what I mean by how Microsoft used to be different--back then, they wanted to share with a partner, as you know, they prefer not to these days.
