Elbit Vision Systems Ltd. ('EVS') Comments on Preliminary Fourth Quarter and Year End Financial Results

YOQNEAM, Israel, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Elbit Vision Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: EVSNF - news) today announced that based on unaudited preliminary financial results, the Company expects to report revenues and net income for the fourth quarter of 1997 below that reported for its fourth quarter ended December 31, 1996. However, revenues for the year 1997 will represent an increase of approximately 40% compared to 1996, and net income will represent an increase of approximately 100% compared to 1996.

The Company attributes the fourth quarter revenue and profit decline to the inability to conclude in 1997 several contracts following the OTEMAS trade show in Japan. Yossi Barath, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, ''Despite the slowdown in the fourth quarter, EVS continues its successful introduction of the 'I-TEX Inspected'(R) label and its new products into the market. However, we are concerned about the current adverse conditions in Asia and potential repercussions in other geographic markets and therefore expect more moderate growth in 1998.''

Elbit Vision Systems Ltd. (''EVS'') designs, develops, manufactures, markets and supports automatic vision inspection and quality monitoring systems, including a family of automatic fabric inspection and quality monitoring systems for the textile industry. The Company's systems are designed to increase the accuracy, consistency and speed of the detection and identification of defects in the manufacturing process in order improve product quality and increase manufacturing efficiency.

Statements in this press release which are not historical data are forward-looking statements. Actual results may differ from those projected in the forward-looking statements. For a discussion of these factors, please refer to the Company's Prospectus dated March 20, 1996 and Form 20-F for the year ended December 31, 1996.
