I think the fools sense that the party may be getting over and want to sell their books away before people start retching at the very mention of stocks...

Here is a comment from one of the fools when he was interviewed by PBS sometime in 1996. I reproduce it verbatim here (except for the highlighting of a sentence for emphasis), and will let readers draw their own conclusions :

DAVID GARDNER, Motley Fool Co-Founder: We've
identified a couple mechanical investment
approaches which can be used by anybody, take
only about 30 minutes a year, and for more than
25 years have returned that 20 percent and we
don't see any big change in the next 25 years.
So
when we teach that approach, we're teaching
people financial self-reliance.
