Re: "[merced] First silicon should be in hand by mid-year"

So, Intel's 0.18 micron process should be ramping at about the same time as AMD is ramping their 0.25 micron process in their production fab?

How does Intel's current lead in process technology compare to their lead in the past?

Aaron

paul, re: merced, SunTel: some of my "frindes" tell me that RTL is still in progess for
parts of the chip. It's good to here from you that Intel is on schedule and already in layout....
thankx for the confirmation.

There was some news re: sequent/DEC re:
Digital, Sequent to team up on 64-bit Unix

A spokesman for Sequent said the company had negotiated for months with Sun but
was concerned that the version of Solaris for the Intel chip would
not match the performance of Solaris on Sun's own line of high-end SPARC worksta
tions.

Both Digital and Sequent have a strategy of allowing customers to decide whether
to use Unix or Microsoft Corp.'s [Nasdaq:MSFT - news] increasingly
popular Windows NT operating system, while Sun is a bitter rival of Microsoft.

Do you think above would have any impact on SinTel(sunTel?) relationship?

Re. Merced production timetable

I've read several criticisms of you lately, even going so far as to note that you would object to receiving 25 thousand spams. However, none of them has accused you of skimping on details in your posts, and I am pretty sure that none ever will. Thanks for your thorough reply.
