First all there is some confusion here.

A long term investor can also be a short a stock if he/she thinks that stock is overvalued. I don't hope for bad things, I just try to understand what is happening around me.

A smart long term investor sells the stock and takes a profit. I've owned Intel to qualify for long term capital gains but I also sold Intel when it was realistic for me to do so.

I don't know what it is that some people are missing here(not you in particular). It isn't a question of hating the company or loving some other company, or wanting bad things, its whether the current price will permit you to share in the companies real future value.

If you buy a stock too high you certainly do nothing to help either the company or yourself.
