IMHO, the much proclaimed superiority of the American system with checks and balances between Legislative, Executive an Judicial is actually the root of our increasingly dysfunctional government. Presidents have taken to ruling by decree because Congress is infested by people who primarily want to obstruct government. The Supreme Court dynamics are similarly resulting in endless fighting.

A parliamentary system where the PM is from the majority parity and head of the Legislative branch at least encourages the ruling party to perform. Those systems do have other problems, particularly when fragile coalitions are the way a majority is cobbled together. But our system is increasingly dysfunctional.

I think there is a very high probability the country as we knew it does not survive - probably a 90 percent chance the nation fails in the next 25 years. I would have guessed 95 percent as of the end of Obama's term..but improvement.
