States and the Federal government are gripped by unpaid bills. The last time I checked states were $1.2 trillion behind in paying into their pension plans. It's easy to see why they want to get rid of the unions. They didn't act like adults

they depend on the us gov for their tax break on their state taxes and their property taxes

Here in CA they use the deductability as a means to sell additional taxes. I guess the logic is you'll only be out of pocket for 72% of whatever the tax increase might be... Of course those not itemizing get screwed.
