Not close enough to the ground. What are the sandals for? Bare feet is how children [and me] should be. My feet do get soft over winter these days but are toughening up as summer draws near.

Bare feet is a Kiwi thing. It's nice to feel the ground. Now that most drinks come in plastic, there's much less broken glass too so the hazard is low.
