White Evangelicals accept IMMORAL politicians MORE than other Americans now…

Nov. 12, 2017 7:47 pm by SooperMexican

I honestly thought that there were some holdouts on this degeneracy, but this poll confirms my fears.

From NPR:

In 2011, 30 percent of white evangelicals said that “an elected official who commits an immoral act in their personal life can still behave ethically and fulfill their duties in their public and professional life.” Now, 72 percent say so — a far bigger swing than other religious groups the poll studied.

It’s just one poll, but it does suggest a sizable shift in how Americans of several religious stripes think about the connection between morality and politics. White evangelicals also are less likely than they used to be to say that “strong religious beliefs” are “very important” in a presidential candidate. That share fell from 64 percent in 2011 to 49 percent this year.

Wow. That is just pathetic.

More:

Of the groups depicted in this chart, white evangelicals are by far most likely to support Trump. At the other end, unaffiliated people are most likely to support Clinton.

The data in this poll could mean that Trump has inspired some people to loosen their views on whether it’s OK to vote for someone with a questionable past. Aside from the allegations of sexual misconduct, Trump also said at one point in 2015 that he didn’t think he had ever asked God for forgiveness. He also drew jeers when he made reference to “ Two Corinthians,” which Christians normally call “Second Corinthians.”

What greater proof do you need that Bill Clinton won the culture war than that even supposed religious people don’t care about morality in their leaders?

What Trump! Hath Wrought.

Remember the Moral Majority? Defining Deviancy Down? Bill Bennett and his books of virtues. They've gone over to the other side. Maybe next he can write the Book of Vices?

Forget about those virtues. They're for losers and they're no fun anyway.

A commenter:

Two things, and all driven by fear. One the media built Trump up because they thought they could beat him, they were afraid of Cruz. And evangelicals thought Trump had a better chance of beating the Hillary demon, had they known during the primary just how much Hillary was detested by her own party they might have voted differently.

I'm not defending him if he did it, but how many of us remember all the things we did in our youth? If a woman came out of the blue and accused me of something I did in 1970, I would have no idea who she is.

Brumar,
Imagine being molested by an older man. Then that man denies ever doing it and then goes on and gets elected to United States senate.
This is why feminism continues to be a driving force in politics and society, for better or for worse.

Funny thing is that feminism all but died during the Lewinsky scandal. You can thank Hillary for that.

You protest too much, I think I know why. No shame here Brumar, feel free to be who you are.

Anti-gay evangelical Ted Cruz was caught liking a bisexual adult film on Twitter, and people are disturbed

Democrats politicians never claim to have god on their side but do things in government that are very godly. Republicans are godless, immoral and use government to harm people across the globe.

Dems help people get health care, insurance, basic rights, have clean air and water, food, shelter etc. Churches say they believe in all these things but then vote for people who do the opposite.

I knew Bill Clinton was a horribly flawed man but I also knew he was the best man to lead the country. If I waited for the perfect person to run I'd never vote for anyone.

After Bush lied about WMDs and was easily reelected it was clear morality is never expected by anyone in the gop. There is a difference between being personally flawed (Clinton) and being completely corrupt (Bush, Trump, Reagan, Ryan. McConnell etc.).
