>> Whenever the government engages in price fixing, it destroys the economic signals that are needed for a market to be sustainable and always leads to worse outcomes for consumers. Price fixing is never the answer. Single payer is simply price fixing by another name.

Agree totally. Really, price controls. But the point holds. Government price controls have never worked in the history of economics. And until they get government out of the health care business this isn't getting any better.

There is a real problem with trying to solve the current situation in that Republicans have nothing and Democrats are pressing hard for more government. Democrats are going to win that battle every single time. And the problems just get bigger and worse.

I don't think it is going to get any better.

Agree - price fixing bad. But just as bad is unlimited spending for health care that may be reaching the point we have to do something. A household budget has a certain amount of money they have to spend; no price fixing there as they decide. The health care paradigm though is busted as there is no checks on price. You need care - you want the best and when you go into the hospital you don't usually shop around or even ask questions. The dr orders the procedure and you get it. ...........We have to address cost, but it will need to be done in a bipartisan way and we are not ready to do that yet.

Single payer is simply price fixing by another name.

I don't think that frame holds up. You have to have a market to price fix. With single payer, there is no market.
