When something is a commodity, how can it consent?

I understand your point. But even in a perfect world where women were not considered commodities, the concept of consent would be in play.

There would still be those who don't accept "consenting adults" as being beyond judgment. Without the consent paradigm, the notion of individual human agency is at risk. I'm speaking broadly here, not just about men and women and sex and power. Consent is a bedrock concept in our legal and moral systems. You can hit only someone who consents. You can inoculate or operate only on someone who consents. If we didn't use consent, what would we use? (Cows and cars are property. Property warrants respect but not agency.)
