Charles, funny that I was just saying that "Netscape isn't as innovative as they used to be," here's an article which sorta goes into that: businessweek.com

I agree with most of what is said there.

RE: Microsoft innovation:
Microsoft has a philosophy which is sorta of against innovation (as in, innovatingly defining new markets), in a way. They do NOT really want to be the first in any market. Rather, they prefer that another company does all the groundbreaking and legwork--and if the market is shown to be "real," then Microsoft will move in, hoping to take it. This philosophy came about after Microsoft's big Interactive TV failure--they wasted lots of resources trying to pioneer a market which never materialized. Trust me on all of this, I know first-hand.
