With interest rates near zero, why shouldn't we borrow as much as we can to cancel high interest debt and then add a bunch more for infrastructure improvements... would cost us near nothing..

Isn't that the truth? We are all just a bag of health accidents waiting to happen. It has always been amazing to me how the body can harmonize so many complex processes to keep us alive so long. I control what I can to improve my chances of living long and healthy, but you just never know. Anyway, when my day comes, I've already told my wife that I want no extraordinary measures taken on me. If I end up with dementia, then just stash me somewhere cheap and let everyone in my family forget I exist. I don't want to burden anybody or make them sad. Also, I want to go, as peacefully as possible, and leave all my life's earnings to her and the kids. I don't want to bleed their inheritance dry on keeping me alive and I don't want an expensive funeral. I told her burn me into ashes and scatter them on a beach or a beautiful forest somewhere. No open caskets and no expensive funeral either. Just extreme unction and a quiet mass to pray for me. They can remember me as I lived, not as a corpse. Money is for the living, not for the dead. If they must have a wake, then have a party at home and make sure everyone has plenty of beer and wine. I started working when I was 12, have been frugal my whole life, and saved 50% of my income. I'll be darned if that money will be wasted on me when I'm dying or dead.

I'm with you on the debt and deficits. I've always said the GOP and Dems are no different when it comes to profligacy. GOP spends on tax cuts and military adventures and Dems spend on welfare. They are both incompetent fiscal managers. And now you know a bit of my history, you know why I too am mightily offended by our completely irresponsible government management of our taxpayer money. Anyone who has worked hard and has been frugal their whole life gets positively apoplectic at the nonsense our government spends money on. I just read that the taxpayers foot the bill for sexual harassment settlements in Congress. I'm going to risk getting banned from this thread and say, "WHAT THE FUCK!" Why do the taxpayers have to pay for those degenerates? The more I find out about Congress, the more I believe almost every one of them needs to go to jail for what they are doing to the American people. They have no shame.
