Pugs--Have you written them down? You need to. I would love to hear more. You of course saw the movie "When we were Kings." Should get an Academy Award. When I was a kid, my dad took me up to Primo Carnera (sp) and introduced me--it was at the beach in Venice, CA. A huge man. Then, years later, I saw the movie "Requiem for a Heavyweight" and felt connected to the man. Very sad story and a sad life. Also, greatly miss the Wed. nite fights from St. Nicolas arena in N.Y. on TV(originally listened to them on the radio) and the Fri. night fights from Madison Square Garden with Don Dunphy announcing. I never missed them. My favorite fighters from that era were Joey Giardello, the middle weight from Philly, Dick Tiger from Nigeria--it seemed like he fought every other week. They called him a great "club" fighter. A term that no longer has meaning. Jake Lamotta, terribly behind on points in the 15th round and all of a sudden knocks the opponent out(can't remember his name)And, then there was Kid Gavilan who would fight only the last 30 seconds of the round and impress the judges. Where Sugar Ray Leonard learned the bolo punch. And then, of course, Sugar Ray Robinson. Nobody has style like he had. He was so "pretty" in or out of the ring. Well, now you have got me started.
