We can't pay off the debt we have now, we constantly roll it over. When a bond issue reaches maturity, it has to be rolled over ie replaced with a new issue of debt

To my knowledge a bond can be paid off early unless it is non-calleable...... I've owned bonds that were called on me.....
The gov constantly sells bonds to the SS administration so they also get totaled in the debt figures.....even though they put the SS money into the general fund.... My thoughts for gov was to have them roll over as much of the high interest bonds they as they can by issuing new ones at the current very low interest rates...... Didn't your oil company do that....IBM did...makes good business sense....
