Ice storm closes Montreal Futures Exchanges

MONTREAL, Jan 9 (Reuters) - The Montreal Futures Exchange closed early on Friday after a devastating ice storm
sweeping the province of Quebec forced the bourse to switch to limited backup power systems.

A spokeswoman for the exchange said trading of futures and options on futures closed at 1300 EST/1800 GMT.

She said equities trading on Canada's second largest exchange will continue using backup power until the regular 1600
EST/1800 GMT closing.

The exchange has been relying on a backup power supply since about 1030 EST/1530 GMT.

The brutal five-day-old ice storm has caused power outages in much of the French speaking province, eastern Ontario and the
northeastern United States.
