Fees for health care

CHONGQING has taken the lead to collect additional fees for health care from the city's cigarette producers and
sellers starting the very beginning of this year, the Beijing-based Legal Daily reported yesterday. The charge will be 0.1
per cent of the income of cigarette producers and sellers. It is estimated that the city can collect 5 million yuan
(US$602,000) of such fees each year and the money will be used in health education and disease prevention. Statistics
indicated that two thirds of the adults in
China are smokers.
