The 48,000 felons and fugitives put false information on Form 4473 hoping to be allowed to illegally buy guns. Those 48K were identified BUT their attempts to buy illegally didn't get them in any trouble.

Check out question 11 a-i. Don't you think people should be punished for trying to buy a weapon when they're not eligible because they're felons, fugitives from justice, etc.?

'Pulled my gun and told him to get off her' | Man who stopped alleged rape in Austin speaks

Notice this is defensive gun use didn't even involve firing the weapon. Which is probably the case the majority of the time.

AUSTIN - For years, Josh Williams has run at least once a week along Austin's busy Hike-and-Bike Trail.

He always carries his cell phone for emergencies, and a flashlight to help him see in darkened areas.

He also carries a gun.

"It's dark, and I don't know what's out there, so I have it to protect myself and other people," Williams, 39, told Tony Plohetski in a recent KVUE News/Austin American-Statesman joint-exclusive interview. "That's what it's all about anyway, to help other people with it, not just myself."

On the morning of Sept. 15, at around 5:30 a.m., Williams was running on the north side of the trail. He heard screams from a woman, pointed his flashlight in the direction of them and said he realized that she was being sexually assaulted.

Armed good Samaritan stopped Hike-and-Bike trail sex assault, affidavit saysThe crime was one of three similar incidents in a several week period that put runners' on edge along the busy path.

"I came up, pulled my gun and told him to get off of her," he said. "Get on your knees and show me your hands."

Hear Williams' full account of what happened here:

The man, who police later identified as 22-year-old Richard McEachern, ran away from the area. But based off of Williams' description and the description from the woman he attacked, police found and arrested him several days later.

He has been charged with sexual assault and remains in the Travis County Jail.

Police have not arrested a suspect in the other two assaults but do not think they are related.

At the scene of the crime, Williams demonstrated to KVUE a Velcro belt that allows him to wear his gun on his right hip. He also showed how he stopped the attack.

He has been licensed to carry the weapon, a Glock 43, for about 10 years.

He said on the morning of the woman's assault, he's glad he had it -- and that he was there to help.

By KSLA Staff

MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) -The man who was shot in a Southwest Arkansas residence has died.

The 81-year-old who owns the home where the shooting occurred says the man had a gun and was trying to rob him.

"Whoever got the biggest gun and fastest will be boss when it is all said and done. ... In this case, it was me."

And Buddy Cates says he has been robbed a half dozen times in the past 10 months.

A Sheriff's Office spokesman has confirmed for KSLA News 12 that deputies have responded to multiple calls to his home.

The shooting happened about 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cates' residence on Genoa Road (Arkansas Highway 196) at Miller County Road 290 in Genoa.

That's about a quarter mile west of Genoa Grocery.

The wounded man was taken to a Texarkana hospital, where he later died. Authorities have yet to release his name.

"I walked outside the door, and he was standing right there with a big pistol," Cates recalled. "I had my hand in my pocket on my pistol, and the battle was on."

Authorities say multiple shots were fired.

Cates estimates that he and the other man each fired their guns six to eight times.

Detectives recovered two guns at the scene of the shooting.

The homeowner has been interviewed by Miller County sheriff's detectives.

No charge has been filed.
