Zoom Telephonics Hardware Safe For Year 2000

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1998--Zoom Telephonics, a leading producer of computer telecommunications
products including faxmodems, ISDN terminal adapters, dialers, and remote access routers, today announced that its hardware
is safe for the transition to the year 2000.

Zoom faxmodems, TAs, and dialers do not contain any date-specific operating instructions, and will not be affected by the
year 2000 problem.

Zoom's remote access routers, the Zoom/Access(TM) 2 and Zoom/Access 8, use a date field for tasks such as event logging
and session timeout. The year component is four bytes wide, so that year names 1999 and 2000 are fully supported as
four-digit values. These devices have been tested to assure they function as intended when the stored date transitions from
1999 to 2000.

Many Zoom products come bundled with various types of application software. Zoom does not alter this software in any way
related to the date. While it is possible that some of this software may be adversely affected by the year 2000, Zoom is not
aware of any bundled software having this problem. Zoom does not make any representations that this software is year 2000
compliant. Interested parties should contact the manufacturers of the software directly for further information.

''Our internal information systems are also in excellent shape to handle Year 2000 issues,'' said Dean Panagopoulos, Zoom's
VP-Information systems. ''Our company-wide Enterprise Resource Planning System from DataWorks(R) is completely
Y2000 compliant. In addition, we conduct business with major customers and other trading partners using Electronic Data
Interchange, and are ready to implement the ANSI Y2000 compliance standards in conformance with our EDI trading partners'
timetables.''

Zoom Telephonics designs, produces, and markets faxmodems, ISDN products, and other products that link people and their
personal computers through the world's largest network, the international telephone network, and connected networks
including the Internet and corporate local area networks. Zoom Telephonics is publicly traded on Nasdaq (NASDAQ:ZOOM -
news). Zoom products are produced in Boston, Massachusetts and sold worldwide.
