Yes, especially sensitive positions like defense, FBI, CIA and AG. I was in politics in Alaska for 30 years and despite being a blood red state, somehow we managed to elect Democratic governors over half the time and one of the last liberal Republicans governors "Jay Hammond", over the last 40 years.

When we took office all Department heads were asked to resign and we never appointed any Republicans to anything. We knew their policies and that fight well and we knew what Republicans would do. When our Democratic governors would fly around the state they would ask the question:" are they one of ours".

We were very cognizant that we were at odds with them and what Republicans do when given power. I think I know why Obama did it. According to Richard Wolff who is a liberal, Obama ran an "outside campaign" against Hillary and then switched to an inside game after being elected. By appointing Republicans he felt it would help him gain their support. That was naive. All they did for eight years was attack him and betray him.

He also let go all the geniuses who got him elected and would have been of great help in the 2010 elections which decided gerrymandering.

I often ask the question try and think of one major issue in the last century where the Republicans were right and the Democrats were wrong. I have yet to hear one: segregation, civil rights, environment, gender equality, income equality, modern social structures support by reasonable tax policies e.g. social security and medicare, and all things modern, etc.

I've noticed over the years that Democrats always appoint republicans but republicans seldom appoint Democrats. There's no reason whatsoever for Democrats to ever trust a republican again after what Comey did with the elections.
