No, the writers weren't killed before they wrote their books. Look at Luke and Acts, both written by Luke, a protege of Paul and mentioned in his letters. The book of Acts follows Peter and Paul's missionary activities, but doesn't reveal their deaths in Nero's persecutions following the great fire of Rome. Why? Because Luke's books were written before that happened. It's almost certain that Luke himself was martyred at the same time Paul was.
