What do liberals think of Donald Trump voters? Do liberals view them as ignorant and low-educated racists?

The ones on SI do. This is a liberal in GA writing in Quora:

Liam Quinn II, Extroverted loner with a love for reading and people.

I’m a liberal that currently lives in Georgia. The majority of people that I came into contact with on a day to day basis were in fact Trump supporters. Many of them were conservatives that reluctantly voted for Trump, but they do in fact support Trump at this point.

[ That's sad. People who admitted he was trash before the election, having voted for him feel they have to justify the decision by defdnding and praising a bad man. ]

I found that the majority of them supported Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, or Ron Paul initially, but I have come into contact with real Trump supporters.

Real Trump supporters are different.

That’s the easiest way to explain them. They aren’t stuck on policy, they care very little about evidence, and they love his anti-establishment attitude.

[ The real cultists don't give a damn about what he does as long as he fights twitter wars over trivial crap. ]

They voted for Trump because of his persona.

They felt Trump embodied what it meant to be a “non-fuck-giver” and they latched onto him.

Trump became a new sort of counter culture. He became “cool.”

And this is where the problem lays. Many of them don’t support Trump because of his stances, they support Trump for his attitude, and his “stick it to the man” mantra.

Make America Great Again….

In their eyes this means, we are gonna take America back, overthrow the establishment, build up the military, and fight the politically correct culture.

Trump was the leader of the rebellion in their eyes, and they desired to be a part of that rebellion.

I’ve confronted many of them, shown them facts, evidence against their beliefs, but there’s no swaying them. They have conviction, they have hope, and they have a savior.

Trump is essentially their new Jesus, and the media, evidence, and rational arguments are all satan in their eyes trying to lead them away from a promise of a better life.

[ That's how one said recently he'd take Trump's word over Jesus. ]

Trump promised them something, and in their eyes they have to do everything in their power to hold onto that promise and reject everything outside of it.

Trump promised a better future to a group of people that are suffering and feel excluded.

[ Bullshit. They're mostly NOT suffering, But they FEEL like victims. ]

There’s no way to rationally argue with that.

It really boils down to faith, and as any atheist knows, you can’t convince someone who’s belief is based in faith with evidence and rationality.

On the other hand, there’s the rust belt workers. (These I have no direct contact with but I’ve done my research.)

They’re the ones that really catapulted Trump to victory. They caught the world by storm.

Trump once again identified a group of people suffering, he saw their problem was jobs, and he made a promise.

This group has goals. They have an exact desire. They want their jobs back.

This is where Trump will have trouble in the upcoming election.

These people had real jobs. They made good money, and they supported their families on this money, but then offshoring and automation changed everything.

They lost their jobs, and they didn’t understand why.

Trump came along and said hey we’ll enact tariffs, fight with china, cut taxes, and we will get all your jobs back.

In theory it sounds great. Wow it’s that easy to get jobs back why didn’t we do this before.

But the reality is that as technology becomes cheaper and more efficient keeping these jobs will become more and more impossible. That’s the real problem that can’t be solved.

Trumps ideas won’t work, and this will discourage this group.

Tariffs lead to trade wars, these jobs won’t come back, even if you cut taxes it’s still cheaper to move your company overseas.

Bush cut taxes, and what happened? 500,000 jobs were lost.

They aren’t coming back. These job’s are a thing of the past, and Trump can’t keep his promise.

So do I think Trump supporters are ignorant and low educated racists? No.

Trump supporters are being misled by a false figure of hope. He used a tactic that’s been used for thousands of years, and it will backfire when he loses his rust belt supporters.

To answer the racist portion: That’s an incredibly small portion of his supporters. Studies estimate that KKK supporters and Neo Nazis make up less than .003 percent of the population, so no they aren’t the ones putting him in office.

It’s reluctant conservatives, Trump worshipers, and confused rust belt workers.
