Paul: Thanks for the resarch. I always wonder how reporters know the cause of a price decline. I heard nothing of the rumour when I sold 40% of my large position at $28 1/4 and another third at $25 1/4. Now that I know about the rumour I will be watchful to see any effects it may have on Monday. If the company isues a denial the rumour may actually have given BAY an opportunity to revive. It is difficult for me to believe that this rumour moved the market.

My first sale was to take profits on the week in order to buy BAY again if it should fall significantly before earnings. My second sale was because the downaward momentum towards the end of the day, prior to a weekend, would leave the stock vulnerable to whatever Asian markets dish up on Sunday night, or whatever tech sector profit warnings will be revealed to a jittery market ahead of the Intel and other big tech earnings reports. I don't want to make the same generalised assumption as reporters, but I would assume that many sellers today had motives similar to mine.
