Oh, I agree, my dear old mother was one such person. Born the last of 13 children into abject poverty, she educated herself by reading several books a week. But she lamented how long it took her to "mature" was her word.

My point was that if one is not born out of the cave to parents free of dogma (to what extent that is possible) then they have to find their own way out of the cave of dogma and into the existential light of reason.

Because as Will Durant said of the ancient Greeks: "they were contemporary to us because though myths may differ, reason remains the same, to all people everywhere and makes brothers of its lovers for all time and everywhere."

Probably paraphrased-lol.

It's very possible to be born into and raised in a dysfunctional family, and still find the answers on your own

and without any formal so-called education

peer pressure, who you chose to socialise with certainly is a huge factor, if one falls prey to the "cult mentality"
