Why do right wingers always resort to that: "it isn't a democracy, it is a republic nonsense". Few have any idea what the difference would be. In fact I do not think if you drill down to the bedrock of Republican ideology they even believe in democracy. The pubs sure seem willing to throw it away for fascism and tyranny.

The thesis of a Republic is the idea the people vote for their leaders as opposed to kings and dictators or tribal chiefs. A representative democracy is still the people voting for people to represent themselves.

I-node said the federal government does not work that way referring to our providing power to Puerto Rico which it certainly does. You are simply throwing a rock in the water to muddy the issue.

Uh, no...we do not have a democracy as our form of government.

Repeat after me, koan....we have a constitutional republic. If you're not too dense or haven't turned your brain to mush from 50 yrs of ingesting dope you would know and understand this. A big difference between the two.

A democracy is two coyotes and a rabbit sitting around the campfire deciding what's for supper.
