MSFT currently does Java better than the other major players, so why do you characterize Java as the MSFT killer. They seem to be doing good with Java thus far.

Oh, cut it out Reggie. In case you missed this, check out zdnet.com , which I commented on in 15892. What if they build a Java and nobody came? If this story and the great Java purge at www.microsoft.com doesn't indicate Microsoft backing off here, what does it indicate? Methinks the "Microsoft Java Rules" line is a bit dated.

Cheers, Dan.

I don't get why set-top boxes, rented from cable companies, are the way to go?

Just like we used to have to rent cable boxes to get the cable channels--then the TV manufacturers made their TVs cable-ready.... If I were Microsoft, I'd be pushing on the TV companies to make their new sets "Web-ready," with WindowsCE, of course. Heck, Sony and Philips/Mag are already WebTV makers, so I'm sure they could be convinced--and then hopefully that gets the snowball rolling.

Anyway, the Sun deal doesn't necessarily stop CE from being the OS of choice, so although Microsoft doesn't get the whole pie, they're not totally devestated either...
