Microsoft steps up efforts to tone down aggressive image www5.zdnet.com

Microsoft aggressively becomes less aggressive? Aggressive PR counters aggressive court filings?

"We screwed up and should have done a better job explaining the issues behind the case," said Brad Chase, vice president of Microsoft's application and Internet client group, in Redmond, Wash.

Microsoft, Chase said, is open to discussing a settlement with the DOJ -- provided it would still be free to integrate and move its operating system technology forward as it sees fit.

Microsoft will kindly, gently settle if DOJ caves and gives them another ambiguous consent decree to interpret as they see fit? The saga continues, as does the headscratching.

Cheers, Dan.
