By 2030, a third of the American workforce could be out of a job thanks to automation.

Up to 800 million people around the globe, including a third of the workforce in the U.S. and a third of the workforce in Germany, will be jobless, with up to 30% of hours worked around the globe automated, according to an eight-month study from the McKinsey Global Institute. Not only will these workers have to find new jobs, but half of them (about 375 million people, or 14% of the global workforce) may have to find new occupations entirely, as the fields they previously worked in will likely disappear, or need fewer human workers, the study found.
