Indonesian stock market plunged 18% yesterday and the rupiah plummeted on rumors that strongman President Sukharno might not run for re-election. There was also talk originating from the Sukharno administration that Indonesia might declare a moratorium on its debt.

Ok, ok, call me overly picky, but Sukarno was the guy that General (and president-for-life) Suharto had killed in 1965 when he seized power in a bloody coup. Looks like Sukarno's daughter may have the last laugh, judging from recent news. Got to wonder about a newsletter that sounds so authoritive on international events influencing the POG...but can't get his names right. --bzzzt--
