My Uncle always described the FBI as the agency which investigates after the horse has left the barn. They're rarely ever proactive in helping anyone with barn security.

But once the horse is gone and the FBI is investigating . . . you need to tell them honestly everything you know about the horse, the barn and how you or anyone else were involved.

The problem with people who do malicious things is they have long ago fallen into the habit of instinctively lying, even when telling the truth would serve them better.

Watching Jeff Sessions voluntarily serve up perjury to the Senate when asked "what he would do if he learned anyone in the Trump administration were conspiring with the Russian government", was an absolute breath-taking classic as he started jabbering the incredulous statements, "I have never spoken to any Russians nor do I know anyone else who has."

The very idea that Jeff Sessions is the US Attorney General is hilarious, but if Trump is not involved in any crime he needs to steer well clear of this investigation.
