Patrick,
Hi!!! I am in total agreement.....it is a bit scary but nothing compaired to that first go round....If Korea and Japan stabilize things will shape up quickly....news on McNeil/Lehrer is optimistic.....somebody is going to make out ok with this....and when the bottom is really reached the returns will be swift. Dell at this point is healthy.....yeah, we'd all love to see it @120....but, this Asian mess ....well, it messed up the momentum.....and too many get scared and panic....and the MM's use the opportunity to cut it down and then buy it back....got to have these guys become "experts" someday.....
Long term though I wish some of these IMF bailouts would just cease and let the banks default....the sooner confidence is restored the better.
Best, Kemble

Patrick,

We may distinguish an "up beta" and a "down beta" for every stock.
DELL's "down beta" has been shrinking for a while and is now less than CPQ's. I have not computed their up beta. However, the stock is very resilient now and springs back quickly with up moves in the general market. This implies that the up beta is greater than the down beta.

I think we will see some worldwide effort this weekend to restore confidence in Indonesia. It is an indigenous panic that is overblown.
