You sure put a lot of words in my mouth I didn't say!!!

<<

You make an assumption about automation that is pure fantasy.

You can't argue that we need immigrants to do the work Americans won't do and argue we won't have any jobs because of automation at the same time. It is crazy thinking that frustrates the heck out of lots of people who want to support the democratic party but shake their heads over some of the thinking in the party. .............

Both the ideas are dead wrong! Americans will do the jobs democrats claim they won't if the jobs pay a living wage. AND automation is no different than the fear mongers always wringing their hands that the word is ending because of progress. It was the same claim made when we industrialized (wow!! any jobs created then?) and same argument that computers would take away all our jobs (wow!! any jobs created by by that?).

I think its you who are dead wrong. The middle class blue collar jobs have been clobbered and not by immigration. It was automation that did it. Amazon has done it. Lots of others to. The internet and automation have allowed a lot of concentration of production/distribution and wealth, and while this has driven higher efficiency and thus lower costs for consumers broadly, it has done so by reducing jobs vs what would have existed without the efficiency gains.

We are at an inflection point on what AI/ML can accomplish. The fantasies of a decade ago are now becoming reality, and the next decade will see profound impacts on employment. It would be best to start a discussion beforehand rather than after the fact as to how to deal with it.
