Now FIVE fires in SoCal. The latest is in the Sepulveda Pass. Multi-million dollar houses are now burning in Bel Air. City is gridlocked. The fire is directly across the freeway from the Getty Center. It's about 1-2 miles away from the UCLA campus, the large hospital complex and the VA complex. This is in an area of the Santa Monica mountains. It's hard to convey the impact this fire is having. It's not as big (yet) as the one to the north but it's affecting the entire city. With all the rain we had, the hills have plenty of brush to burn. I'm watching one neighborhood after another get involved in spite of the Super Scoopers and helicopter water drops. The wind is picking up. Listening to the scanner, you get an idea of how bad it is. They're afraid that the whole area is going to go because of the wind. Helicopters drop the water and it blows away. Because of the steep terrain, the ground crews are limited as to what they can do.
