Brian (Brain? H);

I understand your question, but I do not know. I do think that if you look at 99% of the realvideo stuff out there, it has a high voice content, so Purevoice, being one of the most efficient coders out there and having some of the best voice quality would be a good choice for this stuff. the bit rate for vocoders at best quality will be only about 7.6k bits per second, so this would keep the data rate down on a dial in modem line at 33.6k. this would leave 25-26k for video, which is about 2-3 FPS type update rates. this is speculation on my part, having known alot about internet and video and stuff, but not really understanding Qualcomm directions.

in the way early days, the way we debugged the vocoders was to hook them up to the lab stereo system and make the engineers who debugged them play all music and sound thru them 24 hours a day. We got this stuff debugged real fast that way....and led to alot of understanding how it worked.....(8^).
