Funk,I bought the directpc dish from hughes, the 400kbps varies according to demand. It was great for downloading large files.
Never could get it to work right on puter w/cyrix cpu, changed to
other puter w/intel cpu and it was ok.I have 2 phone lines,2isp and
2 56k modems.I compared 56k modem to the dish and the dish was little faster when recieving data from itrader and killkey but the problems
increased. After working w/hughes tech support many times came to conclusion that problem was their server changing the speed of my data
according to the load on their system.Back to using 2 56k modems and
the chickens have a new roost.
If anyone is using the dish for daytrading, please help.

Funk, I'm in a similar situation to you. I'm working on getting a level 2 internet-based data feed for realtick III but I don't have cable and I want much better throughput than 28.8. However, I want to be able to surf investment sites and send/receive email while I'm on Realtick III. I'm mentally handicapped when it comes to solving communications problems so my playing with routers and DSU/CSUs is not a good answer. I can't get excited about ISDN ... it's performance is too incremental.

Assume I'm going to pay $300/mo for the data and that my transaction business is not part of the equation. What are my best/low-cost options for the communications? You mention a "duo dish" option. What is that? Does anyone know of any threads/newsgroups where this kind of thing is discussed?

Funk,

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize you were working with Manhatten Beach Trading (MB DUH!). I actually met Steve in Las Vegas at a meeting in October he seemed like a real nice guy. Good luck with your trading.
I was at CES in Vegas this past weekend and checked out the DUOPC dish that you were talking about. I talked to the sales rep about level II quotes ect and he said they were working with a company to provide it in the near future. You can take it for what its worth. The demo looked good.
