Thx EK... looks like the worst is over for our nearest threat... if you look at the fire map and/or evacuation maps, we are about 3 miles SW of the West end of the evacuation maps... but perhaps 7-9 miles from any active hot spots today... the winds have died down considerably and we're expecting a resumption of normal onshore (wet air) wind flow later this afternoon and tonight... Sunday might be a problem again, but I'm thinking we've dodged this one.

Last night was a lot more tense as any slight shift in direction would have put us smack dab in the bulls eye... I was up until about 4am when it seemed clear that we'd be OK for at least 24 hours.

My wife finished packing up her SUV and is now going through all manner of stuff we've been storing in plastic bins etc. for years and years -- mostly old stuff of our daughter's like "artwork" she did and some of her writings etc. from K-12, but esp. K-4 stuff... now almost every square foot of our house is covered with stuff she's "organizing" -- have to be careful walking around -- sorta looks like what a rookie hoarder might do... I mean hard core hoarders didn't just start with 4-5 foot high stacks of crap all over their house -- they had to start somewhere, right? <ggg>

Yes, we've been lucky... again... nothing like Ventura -- we have friends up there... and still not even close to 2013 when flames were visible from our house during the Carlsbad fires that May, or 2007 or 2003 -- 2003 is still the largest fire in CA history if entire non-contiguous areas lumped together... my daughter and I were out camping and almost got surrounded by fire trying to get out... some of our friends did get almost completely surrounded (they left an hour after we did) and they ended up getting out only because they were able to go off road 4X4 and found a narrow path out. That was a frightening day in 2003 and for several days afterward... the ash fell/were blown around for another year and schools closed for a couple weeks.

The 2007 almost burned down my client's offices in Escondido -- at that time, that client was 100% of my biz and I spent 48 hr a week for 3 years on contract with them... then tapered off over several years until the oil bust almost shut them down in late 2015-16.

The Thomas fire (recent Ventura one of which we are discussing) was very bad and is in top 20 worst fires in state history.
