BG--That is the true beauty of the Swiss Govt. All national issues must be put to a referendum. The Swiss Govt. is set up so that the federal (national) govt. is weak, and the local (canton) govt's are strong.
Also, unlike the electorate in the US, the Swiss people do not buy into political "spin" like soccer mom's do here.

Bill, Yes I remember the whole thing about Swiss CB wanting to sell and the public shooting it down( or will, come referendum).

The question is, did the CB,s get the desired effect? That of steering the public away from gold. It would seem so.
These things raise a lot of questions,

Did the Swiss CB know the expected reaction from the public ( they of all should know the pulse of the people)

Did they go ahead and make the sale announcement anyway to cause a disired effect?
