< gg > Patrick, certainly not bummed out. Off topic..

Sorry about your friend in Ireland. If you will permit this moment to offer a comment.

I have a dear friend who's about 88. She and her husband who just recently passed away have been great entertainers over the last fifteen years and had a wide variety of friends from whom I've learned a lot... especially about the near sightedness of my own life once you listen in amazement to stories told around the table of things like being at the McCarthy hearings or having worked with people now only in history books.

This couple had a knack, indeed a consumate intention, to continuously bring new, often younger people into their social world.. we were fortunate for that and have met literally hundreds of people over the years.

One night I told them a friend had recently died, adding that it was the second funeral I'd been to in the last two years. She almost laughed aloud and said that every friend of their's had either died or become so mentally incompetent they either couldn't hold a conversation or would plop their face in a plate of food half way through dinner. That solved the riddle of why our group that evening and so many others spanned a breadth of some 45 years in age around the table.

Just a small salute to those who give us something special and memorable for their time on earth.

Jim
