THREAD: OFF TOPIC

I need some advice. I like to buy and sell stocks the old fashioned way, through a full sevice broker. I like the research and the personal discussions about investments, as well as the occasional IPO opportunity. On the other hand, I think I am overpaying. I have heard that it is possible to negotiate rates. Can anybody out there who deals with the traditional guys (ML, PW, MWD, etc) compare the following trades with their own.

500 shares NYSE @55 commission $473
300 shares OTC @43 commission $269
400 shares NYSE @48 commission $369
1000 shares OTC @14 commission $350

I realize that compared to discount brokers these rates are insane. But I would like comparisons to full service brokers.

Thanks for any input.
