Each time I see M. Murphy's name associated in a positive way with XOMA I get scared. I received a solicitation letter from him today with the following advise:
"In an Asian-induced worldwide slowdown, where will investors turn for double digit growth in 1998? Technology! These companies are the only real growth opportunities left. We expect money that might have gone into emerging markets, big-cap multinationals or basic materials stocks to flow instead into our tech stocks. Yet, right now, both electronics and biotechnology stocks are abnormally depressed. On December 19th we sold our S&P puts and went slight margin in both Model Portfolios. You are in time to ride one of the biggest technology booms we will see this decade--both 1998 and 1999 look like big winners."

He concludes by saying, "Get your share of the profits. It's a new world out there".

This comment makes me wonder what planet he is on, considering the melt-down in technology stocks and the fact that he sold his put position only a few weeks ago.

I still have faith in XOMA>
