What do you mean the votes are not there? 144 House Democrats support single payer. The other Democrats aren't sure what they support. They know it will be a tough fight to withstand the lobbying efforts of the health insurance industry. Plus, some get campaign contributions from the health insurers.

Jackie Rosen, for instance, is the Democratic challenger to Republican Incumbent Senator Dean Heller in Nevada. Recently, Rosen said "single payer was an interesting idea". What does that mean? I suppose Harry Reid didn't brief her on that topic yet. But she better take a positive stand on single payer if she expects to win. At the moment, polls show a statistical dead heat, with Rosen having anywhere from a 1-2 point percentage lead.

With a tremendous influx of Californians and New Yorkers into Clarke County, Heller is extremely vulnerable. But they are progressives and Rosen better come up with a lot more than "interesting idea" if she wants to win.
