I was so worked up about Abby Cohen's demeanor that I ran upstairs to write something about it, and then SI froze up and would not respond.
Popsicles?

Anyway, she seemed to me like a complacently optimistic aunt who tells you that if you just keep drinking prune juice and eating Fig Newtons nothing will ever go wrong. The joys of financial heaven lie ahead for all true believers. And Louis Rukeyser has lost all perspective, it seems to me. I do wish he would put Gail Dudack on. And it's time for Marty Zweig to go ahead and call a crash.

Hi Alexa,

Abby Cohen has indeed been bullish (and to my dismay correct) despite those overvaluations we keep talking about. I keep repeating my mantra: It has never before in history been a good time to enter the market at valuations approaching these levels. Maybe it really is different this time.
I have never shorted against the box, but your explanation sounds reasonable and should accomplish the goal you describe. You can also sell covered calls, which I have done.

Jack

For people who are really worried about long positions but would like to keep the stock I would advise that you do some research on shorting against the box.

This came up on another thread recently (I don't remember which one) and someone commented that shorting against the box was outlawed last August. Best to check...
