Its not just that, in a few years it will be routine to monitor those variables all day long. Part of the problem in medicine today is that many such variables are poorly understood because of the measurement process. We take blood pressure readings from well rested conditions. But what does that mean? We don't sit well rested all day long. If you read the literature on blood pressure it becomes clear that things aren't clear. Same goes for cholesterol measurements (done after fasting) and blood sugar levels/insulin. It won't be long before we can see how full day dynamic behavior of these variables correlates to health. At that point, what does the Doc bring to the table. Your data will be evaluated by the likes of Fitbit who will have millions of peoples data taken ever few minutes 24/7, while the typical prospective medical study is lucky to have a few thousand participants who are measured once a month of something.

The future of technology in healthcare is very exciting. And it will bring cost containment.

TopCat,
If you can't do any diagnostic work at home
I stopped reading not much further after that. No one said you can't do any self-diagnosis.

The problem comes when you think you can be your own doctor, then you go write yourself a prescription.

"Yeah, I have back pain. I diagnosed it myself. Gimme my Oxycotin!"
